Coach

Shaun Edwards is currently the Defence Coach for the French National Rugby union team. Shaun joined L’equipe de France in 2019 and they went on to win a Grand Slam in 2022. At that time the team won 14 consecutive matches beating a record set in the 1930’s and were ranked the number one team in the world for the first time ever.

2022 also saw Shaun coach the French Barbarians to a historic win against England at Twickenham (21-52).

In 2023 The XV also recorded their biggest win at Twickenham defeating the hosts, England, 10-53.

Prior to that as Defence Coach for Wales Shaun was part of the team that won 4 six nations trophies including 3 Grand Slams.

In the last six years that Shaun was with Wales and France, the teams had never been out of the top two in the Six Nations competition winning a total of 30 million Euro’s in prize money for his respective teams.

Shaun is the only coach to have won Grand Slam victories representing two different countries in the competition (Wales and France) and to have coached them both to the number one position in the world.

At schoolboy level, he was the only person to Captain England in Rugby League and Rugby Union.

Before starting his professional coaching career Shaun played rugby league for Wigan where he became the most successful player in the history of the English game.

He played 36 times for Great Britain as well as playing in the Australian NRL. Shaun was the inaugural inductee in the Wigan Hall of Fame, and in 1990 he was the recipient of The Man of Steel Award.

A boyhood goal, in 1994 Shaun was rated number one in the world in his position by Open Rugby magazine.

In 1996, he was honoured with an O.B.E from the Queen for his services to Rugby and in 2015 he became the 23rd inductee in
the rugby league hall of fame.

Shaun is currently columnist for the Daily Mail in the build up to the World Cup.

Shaun regularly appears as a guest analyst for TV and radio including BBC, Sky Sports, BT Sport and Radio 5 Live.

He was The Guardian’s Rugby Columnist from 2007-2013.

Shaun is an ambassador for the Looz Heads, Joining Jack Charity, Matt Hampson Foundation, Lawrence Dallaglio Foundation and The Wooden Spoon children’s charity of rugby.

Shaun was honoured by his hometown as one of only 6 people to be recognised with a commemorative star in recognition of his contribution to Wigan life.
